Braces Removal Question?

The first appointment I just went to they took everything off my teeth, braces, glue and made a mold for retainers then sent me home..
My question is, are they going to whiten my teeth? Because its pretty gross.. and my second question is, do they shave your teeth down to make them the same size? Because I had this one tooth that was very crooked and stuck out and when it got aligned it now sticks out like 2 millimeters above the rest of my teeth so i look deformed.. Are they going to do something about this? I told them about this at my last app and they said they will get in done in my next app. But they allready made the mold for the retainers..

my orthodontist did not whiten my teeth or file down my two front teeth that are a little longer than the rest. your orthodontist may be different, but i dont think they will, especially if its a 20 minute appt.

The orthodontist won't whiten your teeth, but you can try the over the counter bleaches. They work well. The orthodontist does not do gumline corrections. When you have severely rotated teeth, you can end up with inconsistencies in gumline contour. You should ask the orthodontist for a referral to a periodontist. Sometimes for actual tooth recontouring (not gum) you would return to your general dentist.

When my braces were removed I didn't have my teeth whiten, but he did file down my front tooth. The fact that your mold for the retainer is already done shouldn't really affect anything if they file your teeth.

No they will not whiten your teeth. That's an additional service that you may ask for if they provide it, but it'll cost you. And no they won't file them down. That's not their job. The purpose of the braces are to align your teeth so they aren't overlapped and more prone to cavities. Tell them exactly what you want and expected from the braces. Ask them for a specific day they intended on filing your teeth, and if the 20 min appt doesn't sound right, then call and ask. You have to speak up.

Joe,
Depending on what type of retainers you are getting, you could potentially do the bleaching at home. (With the clear plastic retainers you can put a bleaching product in them before you go to bed at night). As for the shaving of the tooth, the office should have done that prior to making the molds but if it is only an issue of shortening the tooth then the mold will still fit after the tooth is shaved down.
